Illustrations of My Life in Christ – 5

Do you ever get the feeling, you’ve aged, but haven’t changed much? I take a path that looks promising, but end up at the place I started years ago, months ago, weeks ago? Since high school, and girls, and Sock Hops, and KIMN Radio, Denver 95, life just keeps going through these phases. It’s like nothing has really changed, but I’m still here, still looking for something bigger, better, wider, deeper, more fulfilling!

I chose to go to college, that one my pastor recommended. I mostly loved it. Majoring in speech and drama, I loved the stage! Of course, why wouldn’t I? My parents put me in Tap Dance and Ballet when I was a young kid. Yeah. I studied at Marie Wyatt’s Tap Dance and Ballet Studio in Denver. So, in college, why wouldn’t I be attuned to the stage?

My professors opened up a new world to me: public speaking, play directing, playwriting, stage movement, costuming, stagecraft, musicals, debate, judging speech contests, directing One Act plays, acting, traveling to compete with other colleges, and winning certificates, ribbons, trophies, and all that recognition! Being a Christian College, our teams sought the wins, but also to be careful to give God the glory, too.

But, I came there to be trained as a public presenter, and someday, a pastor. Did it happen? Not there, but the training definitely led in the direction of pastoring. Somewhere along the way I hoped to find a great soulmate, a wife. Dating definitely helps. Eventually, I found a wonderful young woman that fit the bill! We planned our wedding around her family’s reunion in their hometown, not far from where we met and were dating.

To be continued…
